You’ve probably seen their brightly colored ice cream treats on Instagram before. Or driven past the red bottles on Beverly. Well let me introduce you to The Milk Shop, better know as MILK. They have the prettiest ice cream sandwiches in town. But be sure to come on an empty stomach, because MILK has so much more to offer than just their signature sandwiches.
On any given day, kids and adults alike flock in and out of the shop, picking up afternoon treats. MILK’s most popular item, I was told, is the Fruity Pebbles Ice Cream Macaron Sandwich. I knew I had to try the rainbow colored treat. I was eating for the Insta after all. It was so sweet, and I was really impressed how well the sandwich stayed together without becoming a melting mess.
If you aren’t one for macrons but still want an equally cute treat, check out MILK’s drumsticks. They are filled with vanilla ice cream, dipped in chocolate or butterscotch, and rolled in fruity pebbles, just like my sandwich was. There are also plenty of bars with flavors ranging from Strawberry to Nutella to Banana Butterscotch.
MILK also offers scoops, sundaes, milkshakes, and malts if you still want more options for how to eat your ice cream! I especially liked the coffee ice cream—it is really strong and feels like it almost gives you a kick of caffeine.
But definitely don’t get stuck behind the ice cream counter. Make sure you turn the corner to check out the case full of baked goods. With cakes, cookies, and brownies galore, if you have even a tiny sweet tooth, you’ll be sure to find something that catches your eye. I was particularly taken by the Blue Velvet Cake. It is the MILK twist on a classic southern red velvet cake. It is made with blue chiffon and blueberries. Having spent 4 years in Miami, I am also a huge fan of tres leches, so I know where I’ll be coming when I start to crave humidity and Cuban flavors.
So if you’ve ever driven by MILK and thought “hmm what’s in there,” do yourself a favor and check it out. I doubt you’ll be sad you did.
