Gelateria Uli - West 3rd

I firmly believe that everyone needs a neighborhood gelato spotGelateria Uli on West 3rd Street is mine. You may already be familiar with the established downtown location.  Founded by Uli Nasabova, Gelateria Uli prides itself on fresh, daily made, delicious gelato and sorbet with flavors inspired by the various cultures and cuisines found all across Los Angeles.

Yes, you will be sure to find a few classic Italian gelato flavors, like Stracciatella, but you’ll also find they may have an LA twist. For instance, the pistachio gelato is made with California pistachios. You can try Ube gelato inspired by LA’s Filipino community. If you’re like me, you will be obsessed with the Cookie Speculoos, Espresso, and Sea Salt Caramel gelatos. Definitely order a waffle cone or waffle cone bowl. The waffles are made fresh in house. Looking for something fruity? I’d recommend the Raspberry sorbet. Plus, there are quite a few vegan sorbet options at Gelateria Uli, so you can finally bring your vegan friends out for dessert with you without them being limited to one flavor option.

I’m usually a “a few bites and I’m good” kind of ice cream eater, but with this gelato I devoured two scoops and a cone! The gelato is thick and creamy, but still so light and flavorful. There is a cute patio area outside to sit, enjoy your gelato, and watch cute puppies from Vanderpump Dogs (which is right down the street) walk by. And if for some strange reason, you aren’t interested in gelato, Uli has you covered with pastries and a variety of espresso beverages.

Do you live in the 90048 zip code? Then you have to check out Neighborhood Night on Mondays and Tuesday from 5pm-close. The 3rd street location offers 15% your order with proof that you really live in 90048. My new Tuesday night plan is going to be 5:30pm SoulCycle in Beverly Hills, a salad on West 3rd at Sweetgreen and then since I was good all evening, I will be treating myself to gelato right across the street. I’m thinking next time I’ll get the espresso. I’ll see you there!
