Beaming - West Hollywood

Amidst the incredible scene that is Melrose, an oasis can be found in Beaming Café on the corner of Melrose and La Cienaga. Founded with the intention of showing people what you eat and drink matters, Beaming serves up superfood smoothies, salads, soups, bowls, and more. And with the menu offerings at Beaming, eating healthy is both easy and delicious. The fact that it took me this long to try a place I drive past basically every day is a testament to how scary it can be simply try a new place. But try you should. Because I now know for nearly two years I have been missing out on what is now my favorite pitaya bowl maybe in all of LA.

Beaming’s mission according to their website is “to inspire and empower people of all ages to experience greater health, happiness and vitality through the power of nutritious plant-based foods that taste amazing.” I have to say, Beaming Café Weho nailed that.

First of all, the staff could not have been friendlier. They were extremely patient with my friend and me as we asked a million questions about what was in the elixirs, smoothies, and bowls. They answered with kindness and clear knowledge about the products.

After tasting a few cold-pressed juice samples, we settled on the Skinny Cooler and Alkaline Elixer. The Skinny Cooler is made with pineapple, cucumber, mint, and jalapeño. It works as an anti-inflammatory and improves metabolism. I was wary of that jalapeño when I first heard the ingredients, but it was not overpowering at all. It just adds a nice little kick at the end of a sip.  The Alkaline Elixir is made with alkaline water, coconut water ginger, lemon, raw honey, turmeric, mint, and cayenne. It too is an anti-inflammatory, and also works as an anti-aging supplement.  It was very refreshing, with a bit of intensity from the cayenne.

We also each got a smoothie bowl. I ordered the pitaya bowl with raspberries and shredded coconut topped with honey. My friend got the acai bowl topped with blueberries, bananas, and honey. Both bowls were amongst the most generously sized I’ve ever seen. Not only was there a tremendous amount of smoothie, but also there was so much full fruit—which I love in a bowl! Often times, juice bars skimp, but not at Beaming. I’d recommend getting your food to eat there, because they have a very cozy seating area.

I have to come back to taste the soups, salads, and desserts. Plus they have a great grab and go wall for if you are in a rush. Parking is tricky, but if you get lucky you can get street parking. Otherwise there are a few convenient, albeit expensive, lots nearby. But I’ll happily deal with Weho parking now that I know what I’ve been missing at Beaming.
