The Pie Hole - Hollywood

I do not usually enjoy being on Hollywood Blvd. I find it to be congested and full of tourists wandering aimlessly.  But dining at The Pie Hole, I found a wonderful sense of serenity amidst the city’s chaos. Pie is clearly the cure for stress.

I had never been to The Pie Hole before, but brought along a friend who was a Pie Hole expert. And when I mentioned it was my first time, she was almost offended. I quickly learned why as well as all that I had been missing out on. As it was late afternoon when we stopped by, we decided to try a slice of the Mexican Chocolate as well as Mom’s Apple Crumble. But no matter what time of day you visit, there will be pie for you. There are breakfast pies like the Sausage Hash Breakfast Hand Pie and the Veggie Western Breakfast Hand Pie. Want a pie for lunch? Try the Mac ‘n  Cheese Pot Pie or the Tex Mex Veggie Pot Pie. But if you’re like me, you are going straight for the sweet stuff. The menu changes seasonally, and weekends also serve a wider range of flavors, including the famous Cereal Killer Cheesecake topped with actual cereal. Trust me when I say I am coming back for that.

Back to the pies I actually ate…my favorite between the two was the Mexican Chocolate topped with whipped cream. It had a bit of a kick to it, so it wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet. The pie’s chocolate filling is creamy and the crust is just flaky enough. As for the Apple Crumble, it tastes just like it looks…delicious. It is a total classic. With big chunks of apple baked right in, you’ll feel like you’re at Thanksgiving dinner even in the middle of Hollywood. The portions are really generous, so definitely come hungry.

Be sure to try a specialty coffee drink to wash down your pie. We indulged in a seasonal specialty—the Honey Lavender Latte. But the coffee menu is expansive and will definitely cover whatever you’re looking for.

If you want to buy more than just a slice, The Pie Hole can make that dream a reality. Just make sure you either order in advance or get in early, because the full pies are first come, first served.

With eight locations across Southern California, you have no excuse not to try The Pie Hole. I’m honestly embarrassed that it took me so long.
